The Plaice Report
Real estate & neighborhood news · SFV & SCV · Issue #1 · Thursday, November 5, 2026
|
 |
Hi there, Welcome to the first Plaice Report. For years I've put together my own little newspaper every morning, and a lot of you have asked what I'm reading. So here it is: rates, programs that can help buyers, what's actually selling in the Valley and Santa Clarita, and a few things to do this weekend. Short, useful, once a week. If something here sparks a question about your home or your family's next move, just hit reply. I read every one. — Randy |

Freddie Mac PMMS national averages, week of Oct 29, 2026. Source: Freddie Mac
30-yr FHA 6.91% · 30-yr VA 6.92% · 30-yr Jumbo 7.52% Mortgage News Daily index, Nov 2, 2026
My take: Rates dipped for a second straight week. They're still about a point higher than a year ago, so it pays to compare at least two or three lenders.
Freddie Mac's next survey comes out Thursday Nov 5 at 9 AM PT, after this issue goes out. Next week's issue will have it.
Rates shown are national averages for information only, not an offer or commitment to lend. Your rate depends on credit, down payment, points and lender. What it means: Fewer homes are selling, but prices are holding close to last year. Condo listings in Santa Clarita are at their highest since 2019, so condo buyers have real choices right now. | |

Before you go Fun Fact & Home Tip
|
FUN FACT
Tarzana is named after Tarzan. In 1919 Edgar Rice Burroughs, the author of the Tarzan books, bought the old Harrison Gray Otis ranch and renamed it “Tarzana.” The community that grew up around it kept the name.
